Farmers Branch is an inner-ring Dallas County suburb first settled in the early 1850s, and it is the home base for Green Van Lines. The 2020 Census counted 35,991 residents. The city is boxed in by major roads: Interstate 635 forms its southern edge, Interstate 35E its western edge and the Dallas North Tollway its eastern edge, so a long-distance truck can be on a freeway within minutes of most driveways. Most of the city is served by Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD, with a small area in Dallas ISD. Much of the housing dates from the 1950s through the 1980s, so moves here often mean ranch-style and mid-century homes in neighborhoods like Valwood Park, Brookhaven Estates and Kensington Place, along with a sizable rental population. If you plan to load a portable storage container instead of, or alongside, a moving truck, Farmers Branch requires a permit from its Code Enforcement Division. Green Van Lines was founded in 2007 as the first eco-friendly moving company in the US, and it handles long-distance moves that start right here in its own city.
