Fort Worth is the largest city in this part of North Texas, with 918,915 residents in the 2020 Census. It is the seat of Tarrant County and reaches into Denton, Johnson, Parker and Wise counties as well. Four interstates serve it: I-35W runs north toward Oklahoma and south toward Austin, I-30 and I-20 head east and west, and Loop 820 circles the city, with U.S. 287 and U.S. 377 adding more routes out. That matters for a long-distance move, because the right exit route depends on where in the city you start, from Downtown and Sundance Square to the Stockyards, Tanglewood or the Upper West Side. Fort Worth ISD serves most of the city, but more than a dozen other districts cover its edges, including Keller, Northwest and Crowley. Fort Worth code bars oversized commercial vehicles of 15,000 pounds or more from parking on residential streets unless they are actively being loaded or unloaded, so a large moving truck works on a tight schedule. Green Van Lines, founded in 2007 as the first eco-friendly moving company in the US, runs long-distance moves out of DFW, including Fort Worth.

Fort Worth questions

Can a large moving truck park on a residential street in Fort Worth?

Only while it is actively being loaded or unloaded. Fort Worth bars oversized commercial vehicles, those of 15,000 pounds gross weight or more, from parking or standing on residential streets otherwise, and they cannot be parked on residentially zoned property.

Can the truck or a trailer park on my lawn during the move?

No. Fort Worth prohibits parking any vehicle, including trucks and trailers, on unpaved front or side yards in residential areas, and alley parking is not allowed. Plan for the street or a paved driveway.

Which highway will my Fort Worth move use?

It depends on your destination and starting point. I-35W runs north and south, I-30 and I-20 run east and west, and Loop 820 connects them around the city. U.S. 287 is a common route toward the northwest and Amarillo.
