Heath is a residential city on the eastern shore of Lake Ray Hubbard, which forms its entire western boundary. Most of it lies in Rockwall County, with a small southern sliver in Kaufman County, and the 2020 Census counted 9,769 residents. The city's comprehensive plan calls for one home per acre to keep a semi-rural feel, so moves here often involve large lots, long driveways and bigger homes in golf-course communities such as Buffalo Creek Country Club Estates and Heath Golf & Yacht Club. Students attend Rockwall ISD, including Rockwall-Heath High School. FM 740 is the main road through town, running north to SH 205 in Rockwall and south toward I-20 in Forney, while FM 549 ends at FM 740 inside Heath. Those roads decide whether a long-distance truck heads out via I-30 to the north or I-20 to the south. Heath was known as Black Hill and later Willow Springs before taking its current name. Green Van Lines, a DFW long-distance mover founded in 2007 and the first eco-friendly moving company in the US, is based about 32 miles west in Farmers Branch.
