Garland is a Dallas County city of 246,018 residents (2020 Census), with portions in Collin and Rockwall counties northeast of Dallas. Its neighborhoods range from Buckingham North, Spring Park and Club Hill around Historic Downtown Garland to Firewheel in the northeast. Most students attend Garland ISD, though parts of the city fall in Dallas, Mesquite and Richardson ISDs. For a long-distance move, Garland has several freeway options. I-30 runs along the south side, I-635 crosses the west, and the President George Bush Turnpike runs through the north, with State Highways 66 and 78 connecting older neighborhoods to them. Garland does not allow commercial vehicles to be left parked overnight on public streets, so a move that takes more than one day is planned so the truck is not left on the curb overnight. Green Van Lines, founded in 2007 as the first eco-friendly moving company in the US, runs long-distance moves out of DFW, including Garland.

Garland questions

Can a moving truck stay parked overnight on my Garland street?

No. Garland code says no commercial vehicle may be parked and left overnight on any public street or public property in the city, so a multi-day load is planned so the truck leaves at the end of each day.

Which highway will a long-distance move out of Garland take?

That depends on where you live in Garland and where you are headed. I-30 serves the south side and points east, I-635 the west side, and the President George Bush Turnpike the north, with SH 66 and SH 78 linking neighborhoods to them.
